I participated in a sprint distance triathlon on Saturday. The temps are still cold here so the swim was indoor and was last instead of first so we wouldn't completely freeze on the bike ride. The high for the day was 57 degrees. The tri started at 8:30 am so it was still quite cold (about 40). My hubby didn't arrive in time to take pictures of the run (he's great for showing up at all) but I did run. I was glad to have run an 8:40/mile average on the 3 mile run. It was tough with a nice hill to run up...and I did run it...no walking. I stupidly took off my thermal running top b/c I was so hot before the bike. I meant to take off the bottoms but wasn't thinking too clearly. So my arms froze on the bike. I averaged 19.4 miles per hour on the bike which isn't bad for a beginner like me, and is better than my last tri. There was this STEEP STEEP hill we had to go up twice. There were at least 5 people walking their bikes up it each time I was on it. I'm proud to say I didn't walk my bike but I did only go 5 miles an hour near the top of it. I just had to keep saying, "I think I can, I think I can." People aren't supposed to draft off of anyone on the bikes in a triathlon, but it sure looks like I'm pulling the pack here, huh?

When I ran into the building to swim, it was so hot in there and the water was really really warm...too warm for me. But I swam just fine despite the dorks who didn't understand the one-way lane system they had set up (a couple came swimming into me going the wrong way).

I was glad to finish the whole thing in an hour and 16 minutes. If I could've sped up on my bike a couple minutes, I would've finished 3 people up. As it was, I finished 12th in my age division, 13 minutes after the #1 in my age group (which was my friend pictured in the last pic with me...she's a lifelong athlete and amazing!). I finished in the top half of all the participants that day. I was happy with that. So, Colorado triathlon, here I come.
